China Distributes Reagents in Country & Latest WHO Update

Testing reagents have been distributed in China:
Testing reagents for the H7N9 avian influenza virus have been distributed among 409 flu monitoring sites across the country, China's center for disease control said Sunday.

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention also provided major infectious disease hospitals and research agencies with testing materials and methods for the newly discovered type of bird flu, according to the center.

Testing methods have been reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) and are available to health authorities in Mongolia as well as Taiwan and Hong Kong, the center said. Continued: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/china/2013-04/07/c_132290465.htm
This is the latest WHO Update on case #17 and #18.

 6 April 2013 - As of 6 April 2013 (16:45 CET), the Chinese health authorities notified WHO of an additional two laboratory-confirmed cases of human infection with influenza A(H7N9) virus. Both of these cases are from Shanghai. The first patient is a 74-year-old man, who became ill on 28 March 2013, and is now in critical condition. The other is a 66-year-old man who became ill on 29 March 2013 and is considered a mild case. To date, a total of 18 cases have been laboratory confirmed with influenza A(H7N9) virus in China, including six deaths, ten severe cases and two mild cases.  Continued: http://www.who.int/csr/don/2013_04_06/en/index.html
