#Egypt: Commonground's Menoufia Commentary on #H5N1 #Birdflu

Menoufia has been coming up in the news as of late. Treyfish just posted an article that says they have had 7 suspected cases in various health centers since the beginning of this month.

I posted an article on a death from H5N1 Bird Flu, at least that is how I interpreted it.
A person by the name of Abdul Fattah Abu (51), from village Dberki of Menof. He was admitted on 1/18 at the Fever Hospital Shebin, and died on 1/21. The article said it was a "confirmed death from influenza emerging" which usually is referring to Swine Flu (H1N1).

The articles in Egypt are challenging to say the least. This particular article regarding the death was accompanied with a picture of them vaccinating poultry. Which swung me back to the H5N1, as opposed to H1N1.

They took samples from relatives and contacts, again, I'm not sure it is their protocol to do this in the event of Swine Flu H1N1.

Another reason that I believe it is a H5N1 case, is because an article came out on 1/13, regarding 6 houses (hotbeds) of avian influenza in Menoufia. They named the owners of all 6 houses. One of the owners names is Abdul Fattah Ahmed. That name is very very close to the man that just died: Abdul Fattah Abu. Therefore, I think it was a H5N1 case.

My take is that the man, Abdul Fattah (56), was taken into a health facility. It was then, that they went back to his neighborhood. Did their surveillance, and the article on the 13th came out on the "hotbeds" (homes) with infected poultry. The Medical Convoy was sent out. The man died. Now we have 7 suspected cases.

A Medical Convoy was sent there on 1/19. They were concerned about eradicating mosquitoes and flies...among other thing. Bringing plenty of medicine too. They were training 60 doctors and nurses on how to isolate patients with infectious diseases, and how to deal with them. Interesting....

On 1/8, two people were suspected after surveillance of a culling. A 4 year old, and a 48 year old, from two different villages, Bjeerm Bakuesna and Quesna.
There were also 95 birds culled and the contacts of the birds were tested. These were from Shebin Ashmun and Obrkp seven Menouf Bagour and martyrs. Most of the birds were found inside homes.

On 1/5, I have a person with a questionable confirmation. Apparently there were not confirmed as they didn't make the list. The Director of Health Menoufia announced the discovery of a new case of bird flu. It was the owner of a Poultry Farm. A 36 year old, Yasser Abu Mansour Mahot, from the Town of Ashmoun.
