Sikkim Govt bans import of poultry

Gangtok, Apr 27 (PTI) Sikkim government has banned the import of poultry into the state due to fresh outbreak of avian flu in neighbouring West Bengal's Murshidabad district.



The ban on poultry import has been done under the Sikkim (Livestock and Livestock Control) Act, 1985, a notification issued by the Animal Husbandry Department said.
According to the Act, no individual, organisation, cooperative society or business enterprise would be allowed to bring poultry and poultry products into the state.

The ban shall remain in force till further notice.
Police complaints would be filed against those flouting the ban, the notification added.
