Vietnam: First A/H1N1 patient dies in Khanh Hoa

VietNamNet Bridge – A 28-year-old A/H1N1 patient was reported dead from respiratory failure on August 3 in the evening in the central province of Khanh Hoa. This is the first fatality from the flu in Vietnam.

This woman ran a pho restaurant in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province. She was hospitalised on July 30. One day later, doctors affirmed that she was positive for A/H1N1.

The patient’s condition worsened. She was moved from Army Hospital 87 to the Khanh Hoa Hospital at 2am, August 3 with pneumonia and respiratory failure. She was being supported by a respiratory machine when she died.

The Khanh Hoa Department of Health said that experts are working to determine why the patient died.

Her 9-year-old son is also positive for A/H1N1. He has been treated at the Khanh Hoa Hospital since August 1.

By August 4, Khanh Hoa had reported 23 A/H1N1 cases, 17 of which have left the hospital.
