European Ctr. for Disease Prevention & Control - Swine Flu Resistant Case in Denmark

Main developments in past 24 hours
• 55 new cases were reported in EU and EFTA countries;
• 1,401 new cases were reported from non-EU and EFTA countries;
• The total number of fatal cases worldwide is 324;
• 4 new fatal cases have been reported from non-EU and EFTA countries: Australia (2), Thailand (1) and Brazil (1);
• Denmark health authorities are reporting today an isolated case of oseltamivir resistance.

Epidemiological update
The number of EU and EFTA countries reporting cases is 29 out of 31. In the past 24 hours, 55 new cases were confirmed in 11 EU and EFTA countries (Table1).
The cumulative number of cases in the EU and EFTA countries is now 6,173, including two deaths.
Denmark health authorities have reported today one case of oseltamivir-resistant A(H1N1)v influenza virus (29. juni 2009 - Resistens hos pandemisk influenza A H1N1v pÄvist i Danmark). This is an isolated case, part of a cluster of cases investigated. No additional cases have been identified through extensive contact tracing.
Outside of the EU and EFTA countries, a total of 66,980 cases, including 322 deaths, have been reported, representing an increase of 1,401 from yesterday (Table 2). There were 4 new deaths since the last report.
