يأتى هذا فى ظل تزايد المخاوف بمحافظة مطروح، وخاصة على الحدود المصرية الغربية مع ليبيا، عقب ظهور وباء الطاعون جنوب مدينة طبرق العلى بعد 150 كيلو من الحدود المصرية و1500 كيلو عن العاصمة الليبية طرابلس، وقد أكدت مصادر صحفية ليبية اكتشاف المرض بعد فترة طويلة توفى خلالها وأصيب عدد من المواطنين بمنطقتين متقاربتين جنوب طبرق بـ 20 كيلو متراً فى ظل تكتم شديد من السلطات الليبية، حيث انتقل اليوم الدكتور عادل أبو زيد وكيل وزارة الصحة بمطروح، يصاحبه فريق طبى متخصص إلى منفذ السلوم البرى لاتخاذ الإجراءات الوقائية تحسباً لدخول أى مريض يحمل المرض من الأراضى الليبية إلى الأراضى المصرية عبر المنفذ.

كما أرسلت وزارة الصحة فريقين على أعلى مستوى طبى وفى طريقهم من القاهرة إلى السلوم، كما تقوم الوزارة بإنشاء معمل تحاليل ميدانى ومعزل على هضبة السلوم بالقرب من المنفذ لاستقبال واحتجاز أى حالات يتم اكتشافها، بالإضافة إلى وجود 7 سيارات إسعاف بمدينة السلوم فى حال استعداد تام لأى طارئ.

وأكدت أيضا أن وزارة الصحة الليبية تبذل جهوداً كبيرة فى مدينة طبرق والمناطق التى حولها لتطويق مرض الطاعون الذى ظهر فى المنطقة، وسجلت فيه وفاة حالتين و24 حالة تتلقى العلاج بالمستشفى، كما بدأت فى تطعيم سكان المنطقة ومنع الدخول أو الخروج من المنطقة الموبوءة.
