Laos-Journalists attend seminar on swine flu

(KPL) Twenty journalists of Ministry of Informational and Culture (MIC) became more knowledgeable on the influenza strain A/H1N1, which originated in Mexico and this disease could reach the pandemic stage soon.
The workshop, held on 7 May, was organized by MIC and NAHICO and supported by World Bank.
The objective is to get the people in the media to have a good knowledge on this strain of influenza so that they are well equipped to disseminate such information to the general population.
Dr Manyvong Khaiyavong, Head of equipment Produce and Advertisement Service of Medical News Centre of Ministry of Public Health, said the new influenza A(H1N1) does not come from eating pork but she added that it important one cook the pork so as not to be infected by other diseases.
The symptoms of this influenza are sore throat, cough, runny nose, fever, malaise, headache, joint muscle pain and with a body temperature that is above 38cc.
To prevent from being infected by this disease, Dr Manyvong said that people should be in a state of good health and they should consume fresh vegetables and fruits.
They should allocate some time to relax, they should do some exercises, refrain from smoking and drinking alcoholic drinks and they should clean their hands with soap and water before they dine.
She also said that if you happen to visit someone who is stricken with this disease you should be one or two metres away, you should wear a facial mask and wash your hands with soap and water after your visit.
If you get stricken by any kind of influenza you should stay at home and keep away from public places in order to minimise the possibility of infecting other people.
There is a need to cover you nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and then throw the tissue in the bin after use, the doctor added.
